Top 10 New Zealand Films (with Sam from Movie Reviews in 20 Q's)

This week Sam Hurley from the Movie Reviews in 20 Q's returns to provide a huge amount of assistance to the guys in counting down the top 10 New Zealand films

 

Wayne had all kinds of misgivings about this topic, but how does he perform on the day? Will he make a mockery of things like research and preparation or will he win over Sam with his well-prepared and 100% completely Kiwi list? (Hint: The last two questions were effectively rhetorical). Paul, meanwhile, tries to balance out his love for horror comedies, with, well, any and every other genre.

Aliens (1986) review

Warning: There are spoilers throughout.

Another classic review this week as the theatres edge close to re-opening and showing something new, but not quite being there yet. So Paul jumped at the chance to review one of the greatest sci-fi action films of all time, and the film he considers the greatest sequel ever made, Aliens!

Make no mistake, this one is a bona fide love-fest, with barely a bad word said about James Cameron's magnificent follow up to Ridley Scott's fantastic original.

Snowpiercer TV Show review

 

The long-gestating (aka delayed) TV adaptation of Bong Joon Ho's Snowpiercer has finally hit our small screens! The boys have checked out the first two Eps as they dropped onto Netflix, and one of them is keen as mustard for it, while the other is full of doubt. This week the guys are filling a significant hole in their topics covered on the show as they head back to the decade they were born, took their first tottering steps, and started watching films! Yes, it's the long-awaited and oft-requested countdown of the Top 10 Films of the 1970s.

 

So pull out those moth-balled flares, whack on the go-go boots, and let your chest hair fly as Paul and Wayne take you back in time to when film was generally atmospheric, deliberately paced and tackles some very serious themes. The Lovebirds review

Netflix dropped another "big" film which was initially intended for a cinematic release and the boys eagerly checked it out, hoping for a reprieve from the B-grade VOD releases which have become a staple part of all movie podcasters lives.

 

But is Michael Showalter's The Lovebirds any good? One of the guys certainly doesn't think so, prompting the other to put together a less than impassioned defence of this (supposed) romantic comedic mystery action thriller. (Hahahahaha!)
