Boss Level review

Are you a bit jaded by not being able to go to the cinema in your part of the world? OR, if you can attend, the lack of bang for your buck you're getting with cinematic releases like Follow Me, The Little Things or Synchonic. Well, good news, everyone! Because the boys have the cure for what ails you with their early review of a new action sci-fier which is about to hit your screens: Boss Level!

Synchronic review

Paul thought he was on a winner this week in convincing Wayne to watch, Synchronic, a brand new sci-fi horror which just hit theatres in very limited showings across the country, but it turns out this was way more of a sci-fi thriller ...

 

So will Wayne find enough out of having Falcon (minus the Winter Soldier) in the film? Or does he struggle to accept said Falcon would be be friends with someone like Mr Grey? Meanwhile, what has got Paul's goat? And is he reading too much into the film?

From the MCU to Star Wars, The Matrix franchise to the Indiana Jones TRILOGY, this Ep has it all. Including a whole lot of snark, as Paul and Wayne both tee off on the other's list in a way not heard since, well, Ep 304 :P

 

Is Paul's theory that a nerdgasm can only take place when there's an expectation based on pre-existing material correct? Or does Wayne have the right of it by saying it only takes a nerdy film and a thrill of excitement to produce an associated 'gasm?

Promising Young Woman review

There's a great deal of buzz around Emerald Fennell's directorial debut, Promising Young Woman, so the boys are keen to check out what all the fuss is about.

 

What follows might be the least comedic review the guys have ever done as they reflect on this powerful film which features a killer performance from star Carey Mulligan, and debate some of the elements presented within.

And given it was time for another music Ep on The Countdown, they opted to go with a suggestion from listener Tara Michalik and countdown their Top 10 Needle Drops! Wayne claims Paul's list will be edgy, but when three of their first four picks are essentially the same, it signifies strange times ahead. But don't worry, Wayne doesn't know the name of the artists that behind one of his choices, so normality soon asserts itself ...

High Ground review

With COVID-19 still running rampant through the US and pushing back (again!) the release of most films, the boys have taken on the challenge of reviewing some smaller Aussie films, which they hope deserve a bit of exposure

 

The first of those is High Ground, which has just hit Australian cinemas. This period-set, Australian western, revenge-thriller has a lot to say about race relations in its home country and definitely provides food for thought. So how will Wayne handle such heavy content? And can Paul get past Wayne continually referring to Simon Baker as "The Mentalist"?
