Episode 65: Independence Day: Resurgence / Top 10 Alien Movies
Tuesday Jun 28, 2016
Tuesday Jun 28, 2016

In this week’s big episode, Paul and Wayne try their level best to talk about the positives of the newly released, big summer tent-pole sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, but keep getting side-tracked by everything they found to be terrible. (Protip: There was sooo much suckage …)
Then in keeping with the sci-fi theme, the guys get busy counting down the best ten films featuring aliens in an essential role. Surprisingly, this ends up being one of the more even-tempered and agreeable Countdowns – at least until Wayne tries to shoe-horn some extremely dodgy films into his Honourable Mentions.
The boys also Re-Count a number of lists and bits of feedback from listeners covering the last couple of episodes, and recently missed segment Check It Out makes a return.
#PodernFamily promos spun in this episode are for Pat and Jason Have a Podcast @patandjason – check their Season 1 Finale episode to hear Paul weighing in with a submitted audio clip – and the great Moviesaurus Rex podcast @MRexPodcast. Hooch and Tom give their take on all things film in their highly amusing show, and plans are afoot to have them on The Countdown in future.
Then, of course, there's also a promo for the show's US brothers, Nick and Justin aka The Epic Film Guys. You might recall Nick covered for Wayne in his absence so go back to check out those episodes if you missed them (54-56). And then show the guys some love by rating, subscribing and reviewing this amazing show at https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/epic-film-guys-podcast/id1027239734?mt=2 and checking out the EFG’s website at http://epicfilmguys.podbean.com/ from where you can now also buy their sweet new T-shirts!

Episode 64: Top 10 TV Comedies (w/ Open All Powers Pod)
Wednesday Jun 22, 2016
Wednesday Jun 22, 2016

This week's MASSIVE topic is the best comedy series of all time! And as if sensing the chaos that was to come, Paul and Wayne invited those most excellent gentlemen, Gareth and Sam, from the Open All Powers Podcast to guest on the show.
You can therefore expect a show filled with MORE of everything that has you Countdowning every week. (Yes, that's now a word). More laughs, more nostalgic reminiscing, more left-field choices from Wayne, and more niggling-agro between your regular co-hosts. Gareth and Sam do a bang up job of being a part of the madness, and even have some very polite feedback about the show's theme tune for the boys to consider...
Please help us thank @openallpowers by listening to their show at www.openallpowers.weebly.com and heading on over to iTunes to rate and review them @ https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/open-all-powers-podcast/id964333927?mt=2

Episode 63: Top 10 Horror Films / The Conjuring 2 (w/ Jarrod)
Tuesday Jun 14, 2016
Tuesday Jun 14, 2016

Much to Wayne's consternation and outright objection, the guys this week count down the best 10 horror films of all time. Yes, after losing the Oscars bet (see Episode 48 for the result), Wayne makes good on his pledge to go with a show chosen by Paul, and of course, this meant the show was always going to be about his beloved horror genre. Recognising this could be something of a problem, the boys therefore invited along another horror lover, Jarrod, to guest host the show.
The three start by reviewing new release The Conjuring 2, directed by local boy made good, James Wan. Then it's time to end Wayne's misery watching horror film after horror film as he offers a list which non-horror movie lovers might very well find something worthwhile on; while Paul and Jarrod bring the genre cred with their mix of old school and hardcore horror. And, to be fair, Wayne even manages to give a good account of himself - right up until he talks about Demon Knight (1995) as being "really scary"...
The first #PodernFamily promo spun in this episode is for The Rock Show with Gully and Joe @rockshowonline
Then, of course, there's also a promo for those most excellent gentlemen, Nick and Justin aka The Epic Film Guys. Nick, of course, covered for Wayne in his absence so go back to check out those episodes (54-56). Episode 62: Top 10 Car Chases / Now You See Me 2 (w/ Christian)
Monday Jun 06, 2016
Monday Jun 06, 2016

On this week's show, Paul and Wayne call upon good friend and driving enthusiast Christian to assist them in counting down the best ever movie car chases. Of course, feathers get ruffled, Wayne makes some hard to believe calls, and other than with regard to a certain film featuring a couple of Not So Good Guys, Christian joins with Paul in making incredulous noises and being told to eat non-mentionable parts of Wayne's anatomy.
As if that's not enough, Wayne and Paul squeeze in a non-related review of the newly released sequel, Now You See Me 2, from director Jon M. Chu.
The first #PodernFamily promo spun in this episode is for the excellent Moviesaurus Rex podcast @MRexPodcast. Hooch and Tom give their take on all things film in their highly amusing show, and plans are afoot to have them on The Countdown in future.

Monday May 30, 2016

Grow out those 'fros, whip on your fave tan flares and join the boys as they this week check out Shane Black's latest offering, The Nice Guys. Do they get down and boogie with the film's groovy vibe or do they get burned by a bummer of a flick?
Then they get into one of the best countdowns yet as they list their favourite cult films, with Paul in particular, reveling in the less than mainstream subject matter. There's also a plethora of contributions to the show as this is a topic that many had to have their say on!

Episode 60: X-Men: Apocalypse / Bad Neighbours 2 / Top 10 Action Scenes
Monday May 23, 2016
Monday May 23, 2016

TWO major reviews this week as Wayne and Paul get busy at the cinema (no, not in that way!). First up, they talk the comedy sequel Bad Neighbours 2, once again directed by one of Wayne's faves, Nicholas Stoller. Then they review the latest in the X-Men universe, X-Men: Apocalypse, with Bryan Singer continuing in the director's chair. Find out which the guys liked better and did either one surpass expectations? BOTH reviews are SPOILER-FREE (discussing nothing more than what you see in the trailers)!
Then it's straight into one of the biggest count downs ever as Paul and Wayne talk the Top 10 action scenes of all time. Things are relatively harmonious until Wayne tries to shoe-horn in a film from less than a month ago, triggering Consternation Paul, that in turn brings out Go-For-My-Balls Wayne. Who will you agree with?!

Episode 58: Bastille Day review & Top 10 Odd/Buddy Couples
Monday May 09, 2016
Monday May 09, 2016

Things get a little crazy on this week’s episode – but not before the guys check out the soon-to-be-released Bastille Day from director James Watkins in another SPOILER-FREE review (no, seriously, we kept it short and sweet so as not to ruin it for those of you interested in catching this Idris Elba vehicle).
Paul and Wayne then offer slightly different interpretations of the best duos in films, with Wayne going for odd couples and Paul listing the best buddies (though not necessarily cops) in films. Wayne maintains Paul went off brief; Paul argues that after 58 episodes he was about due to finally be the one to make up his own rules (just for a change). Whoever’s fault it was (Protip: Paul does write these show notes), there’s more than the usual eyebrow-raising, head-shaking and consternation at one another’s choices, with Wayne in particular taking his “odd couple” list further than ever should have been discussed.
Promos spun in this episode are for the awesomely titled Geek Yogurt Podcast @YogurtPodcast and for the always entertaining Three is Comedy Podcast @ThreeIsComedy and http://threeiscomedy.podbean.com/

Episode 57: Captain America Civil War review & Top 10 Trilogies
Monday May 02, 2016
Monday May 02, 2016

After a month cavorting through the U. S. of A. Wayne is back! And just in time to review the latest summer blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. The guys were lucky enough to catch an advanced screening and in recognising most have yet to see the film, have kept this review entirely SPOILER FREE. That's right, one and all can safely listen, knowing that nothing beyond what is shown in the trailers is discussed. And yet, this review contains a verifiable Countdown first! Hit "Play" to find out exactly what has never before happened during a Countdown review. Wayne also reports on his experience at the recent Tribeca Film Festival, which includes naming the celebrities he spotted or got to observe in a Q&A he attended. Then there is this week's countdown which names and celebrates the best ever film trilogies! Of course, the niggling aggro banter is back, but things all end nicely as the guys - for once - agree on their number one picks. The two promos spun in the episode are for the wonderfully entertaining and informative Classy Little Podcast @ classylittlepodcast.com and for our great friends and fantastic podcasters, The Epic Film Guys. Episode 56: Top 10 Last 10 #7 (w/ Nick from Epic Film Guys)
Tuesday Apr 26, 2016
Tuesday Apr 26, 2016

Paul welcomes back Nick from the @EpicFilmGuys for his third and final episode in the co-hosting chair, and this week the guys are reviewing their last 10 films they've each seen as part of the popular Top 10 Last 10 format. Nick gets to rant long and hard at some of his lower ranked films, while Paul's list is surprisingly not filled with low-budget crap or horror (note: the two are NOT one and the same).
But before they get there, the guys complete their third mini-Lost countdown, this time ranking the 5 best character deaths on the show. Then Nick tries his hand at the Cool for Cast segment as the action classic Die Hard (1988) gets re-cast by the guys.
Thanks a hundred times over to Nick for giving up his time to keep The Countdown rolling on in Wayne's absence!
