Episode 62: Top 10 Car Chases / Now You See Me 2 (w/ Christian)
Monday Jun 06, 2016
Monday Jun 06, 2016
On this week's show, Paul and Wayne call upon good friend and driving enthusiast Christian to assist them in counting down the best ever movie car chases. Of course, feathers get ruffled, Wayne makes some hard to believe calls, and other than with regard to a certain film featuring a couple of Not So Good Guys, Christian joins with Paul in making incredulous noises and being told to eat non-mentionable parts of Wayne's anatomy.
As if that's not enough, Wayne and Paul squeeze in a non-related review of the newly released sequel, Now You See Me 2, from director Jon M. Chu.
The first #PodernFamily promo spun in this episode is for the excellent Moviesaurus Rex podcast @MRexPodcast. Hooch and Tom give their take on all things film in their highly amusing show, and plans are afoot to have them on The Countdown in future.
Then, of course, there is also a promo for those most excellent gentlemen, Nick and Justin aka The Epic Film Guys. Nick, of course, covered for Wayne in his absence so go back to check out those episodes (54-56). And then show the guys some love by rating, subscribing and reviewing this amazing show at https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/epic-film-guys-podcast/id1027239734?mt=2 and checking out the EFG’s website at http://epicfilmguys.podbean.com/

Grow out those 'fros, whip on your fave tan flares and join the boys as they this week check out Shane Black's latest offering, The Nice Guys. Do they get down and boogie with the film's groovy vibe or do they get burned by a bummer of a flick?
Then they get into one of the best countdowns yet as they list their favourite cult films, with Paul in particular, reveling in the less than mainstream subject matter. There's also a plethora of contributions to the show as this is a topic that many had to have their say on!

Episode 60: X-Men: Apocalypse / Bad Neighbours 2 / Top 10 Action Scenes
Monday May 23, 2016
Monday May 23, 2016
TWO major reviews this week as Wayne and Paul get busy at the cinema (no, not in that way!). First up, they talk the comedy sequel Bad Neighbours 2, once again directed by one of Wayne's faves, Nicholas Stoller. Then they review the latest in the X-Men universe, X-Men: Apocalypse, with Bryan Singer continuing in the director's chair. Find out which the guys liked better and did either one surpass expectations? BOTH reviews are SPOILER-FREE (discussing nothing more than what you see in the trailers)!
Then it's straight into one of the biggest count downs ever as Paul and Wayne talk the Top 10 action scenes of all time. Things are relatively harmonious until Wayne tries to shoe-horn in a film from less than a month ago, triggering Consternation Paul, that in turn brings out Go-For-My-Balls Wayne. Who will you agree with?!

Here's an episode with a bit of everything! A Rewind, Be Kind review of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010), a Cool for Cast with the guys offering their take on what the Ghostbusters reboot/remake could have been, and Paul providing a short review of the about to be released New Zealander comedy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople. And then for the main event, the boys call out their top (read: worst) 10 plot holes in film history, with everything from Michael Bay to animated classics getting a good bollocking. Promos spun in this episode are for the hilarious Everyone Has a Podcast @EHAPPodcast and for the killer Quadcast Podcast @QuadFatherMft. Check them out and tell 'em The Countdown Podcast sent you! Episode 58: Bastille Day review & Top 10 Odd/Buddy Couples
Monday May 09, 2016
Monday May 09, 2016
Things get a little crazy on this week’s episode – but not before the guys check out the soon-to-be-released Bastille Day from director James Watkins in another SPOILER-FREE review (no, seriously, we kept it short and sweet so as not to ruin it for those of you interested in catching this Idris Elba vehicle).
Paul and Wayne then offer slightly different interpretations of the best duos in films, with Wayne going for odd couples and Paul listing the best buddies (though not necessarily cops) in films. Wayne maintains Paul went off brief; Paul argues that after 58 episodes he was about due to finally be the one to make up his own rules (just for a change). Whoever’s fault it was (Protip: Paul does write these show notes), there’s more than the usual eyebrow-raising, head-shaking and consternation at one another’s choices, with Wayne in particular taking his “odd couple” list further than ever should have been discussed.

Episode 57: Captain America Civil War review & Top 10 Trilogies
Monday May 02, 2016
Monday May 02, 2016
After a month cavorting through the U. S. of A. Wayne is back! And just in time to review the latest summer blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. The guys were lucky enough to catch an advanced screening and in recognising most have yet to see the film, have kept this review entirely SPOILER FREE. That's right, one and all can safely listen, knowing that nothing beyond what is shown in the trailers is discussed. And yet, this review contains a verifiable Countdown first! Hit "Play" to find out exactly what has never before happened during a Countdown review. Wayne also reports on his experience at the recent Tribeca Film Festival, which includes naming the celebrities he spotted or got to observe in a Q&A he attended. Then there is this week's countdown which names and celebrates the best ever film trilogies! Of course, the niggling aggro banter is back, but things all end nicely as the guys - for once - agree on their number one picks. The two promos spun in the episode are for the wonderfully entertaining and informative Classy Little Podcast @ classylittlepodcast.com and for our great friends and fantastic podcasters, The Epic Film Guys. Tuesday Apr 26, 2016
Tuesday Apr 26, 2016
Paul welcomes back Nick from the @EpicFilmGuys for his third and final episode in the co-hosting chair, and this week the guys are reviewing their last 10 films they've each seen as part of the popular Top 10 Last 10 format. Nick gets to rant long and hard at some of his lower ranked films, while Paul's list is surprisingly not filled with low-budget crap or horror (note: the two are NOT one and the same).
But before they get there, the guys complete their third mini-Lost countdown, this time ranking the 5 best character deaths on the show. Then Nick tries his hand at the Cool for Cast segment as the action classic Die Hard (1988) gets re-cast by the guys.
Thanks a hundred times over to Nick for giving up his time to keep The Countdown rolling on in Wayne's absence! If you’re going to have Nick from the @EpicFilmGuys co-host your show in the absence of your regular co-host, you better give him the chance to rant. And that’s exactly what this episode is all about as Nick joins Paul to talk about the worst ever villains to sully our screens! With both guys riding different wavelengths there are no less than 20 villains named and shamed, with at least a couple of contentious choices that results in both Paul and Nick shaking their heads at one another (as well as a few creative words being flung around)…
After last week’s successful introduction, there’s also a second countdown relating to the television show Lost, as this time the guys run down their Top 5 episodes from the series.

Covering everything from huge battles to incredible performances, this is one countdown that has a little something for everyone - including Paul shaking his head in disbelief at Nick's shoe-horning in of at least one reviled trilogy.
Nick also brings his love of the TV show Lost to The Countdown, and leads Paul in a Top 5 listing of the show's best characters.

Tuesday Apr 05, 2016
Tuesday Apr 05, 2016
For the first time in 2016, the boys turn their attention to television and the new season of Daredevil which recently dropped on Netflix. This one is a SPOILER-filled discussion - at least up to Episode 8, which is as far as Paul managed to get before recording. Much love and positivity is the order of the day, as this show is an absolute winner!
Then the guys get down to the business of ordering their favourite male characters to have ever graced your television set. And, not surprisingly, there are a few surprises to be heard - especially toward the pointy end of both lads' lists!
Wayne then confirms he will be away for three weeks, but fear not! One of the hosts of The Countdown's brother podcast, Nick from the @EpicFilmGuys will be stepping into the breach and promises to make many references to balls and sacks so no-one will feel too gypped. While you're waiting, check out his awesome show at http://epicfilmguys.podbean.com/
