Episode 116: Top 10 Most Rewatchable Films / The Princess Bride
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017

On this week's BIG Countdown, Paul and Wayne compare and contrast their Top 10 most rewatchable films. Of course, things get personal with lists that are so near and dear to their hearts, but the guys surprise themselves by just how different their lists are. This makes for some serious barbs being traded in true Countdown style, but Wayne delivers the knockout blow with what is sure to be one of the most talked about Number Ones in the history of the show ...
In keeping with the rewatchable theme, the guys also Rewind Be Kind review a classic film from director Rob Reiner, 1987's The Princess Bride. And if you're thinking that should lend itself nicely to the return of the unofficial third member of the podcast, The Soundboard (or Sir Soundboard as it's known to Wayne), you'd be thinking correctly!

Tuesday Jun 13, 2017

This week, Paul and Wayne invite along Move Pod Squad Network friend, Chris from the More Gooder Than Podcast to assist in reviewing Universal's desperate (second) attempt to kick off their own cinematic universe, The Mummy, starring Wayne's fave, Tom to the Cruise. Is this another failed effort and the latest in what is starting to look like a string of stinkers for Cruise? Or does second-time director Alex Kurtzman get it right and set up the Dark Universe so people will be begging for more?
Then the guys countdown the best ever films in which the main/lead character dies. Needless to say, there are some controversial selections along the way, and this week that matters more than ever as the guys have decided that YOU, the listener, should vote for which list wins in a poll that this week is available exclusively on the Listener Community group on Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/117845618778882/?fref=nf
Chris gives as good (and better) than he gets while working through his list, and keep an ear out for his awesome laugh, which many are suggesting is even better than Wayne's...

Episode 114: Top 10 Female Directed Films / Wonder Woman
Tuesday Jun 06, 2017
Tuesday Jun 06, 2017

This week the DCEU puts it all on the line with the first female-centric superhero film since Iron Man blasted onto the scene and reset the way blockbusters would roll out for the next decade. Yes, Paul and Wayne give an in-depth review of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. Does it save the DECU's listing ship? Or send it sinking to a watery grave?
After a fairly amiable review, the boys then get their horns on as they countdown their favourite films directed by a female. Both hosts manage to initially include a film co-directed by a male which leads to some fun times, before The Soundboard gets a workout with Wayne cursing it every step of the way. Yes, it's all in foul-mouthed fun and the boys are always friends by the end of the Ep, but in this case they also manage to give a proper shoutout to some of the best female directors working today and declare their absolute favourite before the usual blooper reel closes out the show.

Episode 113: VERSUS Part 1 - Arnie Vs Sly / Baywatch (w/ Jarrod)
Tuesday May 30, 2017
Tuesday May 30, 2017

This week in an ALL NEW type of Countdown, Paul and Wayne ask great supporter of the show, Jarrod, to return to the guest host seat, only partially because he was the one who came up with this show idea! Essentially the VERSUS concept involves the guys once and for all, definitively deciding who wins some of the great comparative rivalries in Hollywood. And they're starting with one of the biggest: Arnold Schwarzenegger vs Sylvester Stallone to determine who is the bigger star!
Utilising a "revolutionary" scoring system, the guys get serious with the insults (amid much laughter and incredulity) as Wayne declares himself #TeamSly, while Jarrod and Paul may ever so slightly fall onto the side of #TeamArnie. At the end of the day, a winner is crowned, listener feedback is heard and a new type of Countdown is born.
Oh and Paul and Wayne give a short review of the critically panned Baywatch already out in the States and opening across the rest of the world this week. But be warned, #Negatron is back and on the warpath ...

Episode 112: Top 10 Shoot Outs / John Wick 2 / Alien Covenant
Tuesday May 23, 2017
Tuesday May 23, 2017

This week Wayne and Paul momentarily forget themselves and kick off the Ep with a serious review of Alien Covenant. Has Ridley Scott solved the problems with Prometheus or is it more of the same idiotic characters and Sir Scott loving himself just a bit too much?
Then the boys gush praise all over John Wick Chapter 2, leading to a fun discussion of the best shoot out scenes ever put to film. With Wayne preferring contemporary scenes, it falls to Paul to honour the classics, resulting in more than one name-calling session, multiple screeches of derision, and a crapload of laughs, as the Countdown continues ...

Tuesday May 16, 2017
Tuesday May 16, 2017

This week the guys decide to get all touchy-feely in maybe too literal a sense as they were "convinced" (read: brainwashed) by Justin from the So I Married a Movie Geek podcast @MovieGeekCast to countdown their Top 10 Sexiest ever movie scenes. Of course, Justin was only too happy to put himself through the same exercise, so sexiness gets redefined as three adult males talk about those special scenes which were "meaningful" too them, mostly in their youth. (Aside from Wayne's #1 which he apparently watched last week.)
How many masturbation euphemisms can the guys come up with? At what point will Wayne stop making mention of being too creepy? And which Hollywood starlet has Justin rubbed shoulders with and managed to put out by mentioning her sexiest role to her?
All this AND a Rewind Be Kind review of Paul Verhoeven's critically lambasted and ultra-sleazy Showgirls (1995) on Ep 111 of The Countdown, recorded coincidentally on Mother's Day in Australia and the US. Which of course means this one is for all the Mums/Moms out there...

Episode 110: Top 10 Magic Movies
Tuesday May 09, 2017
Tuesday May 09, 2017

This week Wayne had a card up his sleeve but no rabbit in his hat as he got to pick the Countdown and somehow came up with this doozy which had both hosts scratching their head before recording, and taking pot shots at the other's list once the mics were turned on. There's too much craziness going on to give an accurate summary, so here's a few highlights:
- Season 2 of Tag Lines officially kicks off
- Wayne attempting to deny all fantasy movies as being magic
- Paul trying to sing Devil Inside by INXS
- Wonder Woman's armpits
- Steven Seagal soiling himself
- And Wayne calling out Mr Seagal to come "Taekwando my a$$"...

Episode 109: Top 10 Last 10 / Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Tuesday May 02, 2017
Tuesday May 02, 2017

96 minutes. 20 mini-reviews. Two feuding cohosts!
Unbelievably this week, some studio big wig decided to release one of the year's most massive sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, early in Australia! So the boys got along to see it and offer their SPOILER FREE review of James Gunn's latest superhero effort between 9:00 and 22:30.
Then the guys get into an overdue Top 10 Last 10 as they each review the last 10 films they've seen from worst to best - which include all the flicks they pledged to watch in return for iTunes reviews left for the show. So Wayne FINALLY reviews The Godfather Parts 2 and 3, while Paul checks out his first ever musical for the show, La La Land, as well as the indie charmer Sing Street from last year. Things are mostly nice enough until proceedings taken a sudden turn for the ridiculous with the top half of Wayne's list. And wait until you hear what he ranks #1 and #2 respectively. (Hint: Prepare to be outraged!)

Episode 108: Top 10 Unintentionally Funny Films / The Fate of the Furious
Tuesday Apr 25, 2017
Tuesday Apr 25, 2017

In this Episode, Wayne and Paul can barely contain themselves as they laugh, mock and (oddly) love on some of the most unintentionally funny films ever made. Which mid-90s action dud is the only film to hit both lists? How many Michael Bay films get mentioned? And whose list ends up being more offensive to film geeks of all ages?
But the laughs don't stop there. The boys also get stuck right into the eighth film in the Fast & Furious series, The Fate of the Furious. This money-making juggernaut has clearly pleased the masses, but was it meant to be funny? (Certainly the guy sitting next to Wayne in his screening did not think so.) And who wears the #Negatron crown when final grades are revealed?
Then Paul gets his Screeners on to review a couple of about to be released efforts: namely the locally produced Bad Girl (directed by Fin Edquist) and the extremely out there The Evil Within - a film fifteen years in the making that effectively killed its writer and director, Andrew Getty, before he could complete it.
