Sure, the cat is out of the bag with Paul's Top 10 films of all time now having been released, but there's still the small matter of his 50 through 11 fave films to reveal to finish this long-gestating bonus series.

 

And back in April of 2022, Nicholas Haskins, now of Nikoli's Kitchen, ex Epic Film Guy, and the creator of Livestream for the Cure, joined Paul to countdown their 50th to 41st favourite films. 

 

So please excuse the gap between these episodes and the long turnaround time on the edit, but here's Nick and Paul enjoying chatting some of their favourite films.

It's almost Christmas and that means 1001 crappy films bursting with cheer and good will and the occasional grinch getting their comeuppance are suddenly in high rotation. But what if one studio was smart enough to counter-program in a film about Santa going Die Hard on some murderous bad guys? Complete with over the top gore and violence?

 

So it is that the boys come to review Universal Pictures' Violent Night, starring everyone's favourite dad-bodder, David Harbour as Santa himself.

 

Is this one the slam dunk Paul hopes it will be? Or does Wayne hate Christmas enough to hate even good films about the season that do something a bit different?

Countdown #401

 

The new era of The Countdown Podcast is here - with the boys now moving beyond movies and television to talk anything and everything that can be counted down.

 

And to commemorate this massive occasion Wayne and Paul decided they should go straight for the vulnerable part of their psyches and shame themselves publicly for the whole world by recounting their Worst 5 Dating Experiences.

 

Now, they were smart enough to allow people they knew directly to contribute their stories, creating an out for themselves should the stories they tell be too embarrassing to be attributed to themselves. But rest assured this is an episode from the heart, because who hasn't been on a crappy date or wished they could teleport away from the person they're with via a snap of their fingers?

 

Of course, Wayne goes straight into filthy and kinky territory, while Paul, desperately trying to not brand the episode with an X rating, settles on awkward and embarrassing.

 

The result is there's a little something for everyone, as The Countdown, in its new format, begins ...

A bit of an oddity for you this week, with a review of this dark comedy thriller (pseudo horror) that it turns out just about no-one has seen. So listen to the first half of this review which is spoiler free (assuming you've watched the trailer) and then decide if The Menu is for you, before coming back to tell us what you thought!

 

But basically, it's not an MCU thing, so Paul is happy for the variation; Wayne slightly less so.

After 401 weeks of the podcast (the boys missed one week back in Year One), The Countdown: Movie and TV Reviews, as it has been known, comes to an end. And it's going out on a doozie of a topic, with Wayne and Paul revealing their personal top 10 film lists of ALL TIME!

 

Of course, this is more than just a special occasion, it's the culmination of something which nobody (including the hosts) could have believed would have lasted so long. Likewise, there's not a person who could have envisioned the show would be the glue that has connected a community of very cool and respectful people who have a mutual love of film (and sometimes television).

 

As such, in this very special episode, the boys share this topic with the faithful from The Facebook Listener Community, reading a huge number of their top threes and sharing their thoughts on the way the show has touched them over the years.

 

Will Wayne tell anyone to eat his ass? What one film will the boys crossover on, cementing it as the greatest film according to The Countdown: Movie and TV Reviews podcast? And are you ready for one final bout of sheer indignation upon hearing Paul's greatest film of all time?

So here it is. The penultimate episode of The Countdown: Movie and TV Reviews podcast after nigh on eight years of weekly "entertainment" - if you're kind enough to refer to this show so glowingly.

 

And to mark the occasion, Wayne and Paul are going out on the two biggest episodes possible - given the name of the podcast - to this point. More specifically, this week it is the Top 10 TV Shows of ALL TIME!

The final film in the MCU's fourth phase comes to theatres, and it is the hotly anticipated, massively budgeted Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

 

Ryan Coogler is back in the co-writer and director's chair, and this time has some heavy lifting to do in terms of the very sad passing of his star, Chadwick Boseman, and Marvel's decision not to recast his role. The result is a film quite unlike anything else the MCU has thus far produced ... but is it any good?

 

Paul trips over himself in his eagerness to make a joke about the title of the film reflecting its length, and Wayne is a tad unimpressed with the spectacle on display here. But both agree this is a powerful film which should be seen.

There ain't no movie, like a guilty pleasure movie!

 

That's the theory that Paul and Wayne are championing this week, as in the third last episode of the show in the current format, they decide to countdown the films they consider to be their most guilty of pleasures.

 

From superheroes to super slashers, David Fincher to Renny Harlin, there really is something for everyone to wince and laugh at, as the boys defend what many would consider to be the indefensible - and that's after Wayne leaves out The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Van Helsing!
