The Countdown

Wayne loves Batman. Especially the Michael Keaton Batman. So The Flash was on his most anticipated films of the year list.

Paul had middling to no expectations whatsoever for the beginning of the end of the DCEU as we know it.

Who will be disappointed and who will be impressed? Can Any Muscietti and co deliver a great film that will have the fans baying for more of the current Snyderverse? Or is this the final nail in what is turning out to be a very, very long coffin for the DECU?

Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #428

Paul and Wayne expose their deepest and most shamefully embarrassing stories for the whole world to hear, figuring no-one will listen to this episode. Because who would want to listen to two grown men completely humiliate themselves on a podcast when there are approximately one million other choices out there to listen to ...

No-one, right?

RIGHT?

Please don't feel the need to prove the boys wrong, as The Countdown continues ...

Ted Lasso comes to a close after its planned three seasons, and Paul and Wayne are your roving pitch-side reporters, ready to give you the scoop from the latest press conference determining whether this season has been a success ... or a let-down after the heady-heights of Seasons 1 and 2.

Should Keely have been relegated to a side plot involving her PR firm? Was Nate done dirty from a story-telling perspective? Were the episodes too padded with side character plot lines? And have Bill Lawrence and co, overall, kicked the winning, extra time goal with this final season?

Countdown #427

Paul and Wayne are getting up there in years on this earth, so they don't mind admitting that the '90s was their heyday for most things - including, in Wayne's case, his hair.

So it is that there's a special kind of excitement that comes along with a 90s themed countdown, as the boys get to relive aspects of their youth and take the p1ss out of each other in the ways they did some thirty years previously.

This week's topic, then, is one which is a little close to Paul's heart, as the boys list their Top 10 Rock Songs of the 90s. Not surprisingly, two completely different lists are produced, but there's a special link between the two number ones which no-one could have ever seen coming :D

Find out just what that is as The Countdown continues ...

Four and a half years on from the original, Miles Morales swings back into theatres with one of the most anticipated films of the year (at least as far as The Countdown is concerned), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Can this one possibly re-capture the magic of Into the Spider-Verse and even be half as good? Will Wayne's inner artist be gorged on all that is on display here? And can Paul possibly be satisfied by his most anticipated film of the year?

Could this be one of the greatest sequels of all time?

Countdown #426

With the new format allowing big pivots away from film and TV, the boys leapt at the chance this week to do a very different episode. So instead of bantering about what is good and what isn't on the box, in the theatre, or from your stereo speakers, the boys this week are (largely) eschewing the jokes about sexual organs and are instead recounting their Top 5 True Spooky Encounters.

In this spine-tingling episode, you'll hear about everything from possession by an animal to a bona fide exorcism, by way of a seance gone wrong and nights spent in haunted houses. All of which happened to one of the lads or to a direct contact of theirs. And stick around to the end, when a few listeners weigh in with their scary tales, one of which was enough to cause a cold shiver of dread down Paul's spine when he made the mistake of reading it late at night, while alone in the dark ...

Will YOU be brave enough to listen to these true spooky encounters, or will The Countdown continue without you ...?

Universal takes another bash at a classic monster that it owns, but this time livens things up by casting Nicolas Cage as Dracula, and making him play second fiddle to another Nicholas, this one of the Hoult variety, in the newly released Renfield.

But after 6 weeks out in North America, the boys know this one hasn't set the world on fire, and are determined to learn for themselves whether this one has been unfairly overlooked or actually earns its rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Find out whether Renfield packs enough of a bite, as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #425

All good things must come to an end, and so it is with eating all the a$$es.

The month long celebration of eight years of The Countdown podcast - affectionately known as the 8 All the A$$e$ month - draws to a close with Paul and Wayne running through the Top 8 Films of the Last 8 Years.

There is some agreement, much swearing, occasional shock, and more than a smattering of incredulity. There's also plenty of The Soundboard. But most of all, there's laughter as all of the a$$es are eaten for one last time ...

... until the show resumes with a range of different Countdowns, of course ...

So, yes, as the Countdown continues ...

FAMILY.

Vin Diesel is FAMILY. And he is also the equal of J. R. R. Tolkien (at least in his own mind). But we can't bad-mouth FAMILY, so just roll with it. Like the cars do in this - and all the previous entries in this franchise - they roll, literally, and keep on driving. Because that's what you do when FAMILY is on the line.

How do we know this? Well, because Vin Diesel says it is so. And like Kanye West, he's FAMILY. So what FAMILY says, goes. Who can argue against that? Not Wayne and Paul. Because they would never argue with FAMILY.

Find out whether this latest installment is worth your FAMILY'S time, as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #424

In some circle, the show must go on. But when it comes to The Countdown Podcast, the a$$e$ must be eaten!

So despite Paul coming down with COVID and Wayne completely losing his voice (but not having COVID - go figure), the boys have bravely taken the mic to record the third part of the 8 All the A$$e$ celebration of 8 years of the show, this time counting the very worst films they've seen since the podcast began in March 2015.

There are hot takes and squeaky voices aplenty, but at the end of the day it was all worth it to name and shame these filthy films and celebrate the show making such a milestone!
