The Countdown

Countdown #443

The popular Top 10 Last 10 format finally returns - since Wayne has, with pain-staking effort, gotten around to watching 10 extra films not previously covered on the show.

As always, the boys rank these ten films from worst to best, letting you know when they cross the line from avoid like the plague to recommended. Thrillers, comedies, horrors, wide-releases and smaller straight to video fare are all covered in this one, and there's at least one title the boys wildly disagree about.

So plug in those headphones, settle down with a glass of your favourite, and get ready for almost 20 mini-film reviews as The Countdown continues ...

While Paul is away in the US of A, the listeners have voted for two classic episodes they wanted to hear again, and this is the result.

So enjoy this throw back to early in the second year of the show when Wayne and Paul's friend Christian - a car enthusiast and racing fan - joins the show to countdown the top 10 car chases ever filmed. There's also a review of Now You See Me 2 if you really want to sink your teeth into this classic episode of the Countdown!

Countdown #442

So, video games have done pretty well for themselves over the last 40 plus years. And given they've been consumers of games across most platforms and many devices, Wayne and Paul this week decided to take the plunge and countdown their Top 10 favourite video games of all time.

From arcade machines to PC straining massive titles, the boys are covering it all! (Well, not all, that would be impossible in a less than 80 minute podcast, but you get what we're driving at.) First person shooters, real time strategies, role playing games, sandbox games and even third person shooters all get a look in this week, while Paul and Wayne have a few laughs, especially in relation to some of the "classic" games on these lists.

So boot up, plug your controllers in, and get ready to pwn some n00bs (namely Wayne and Paul), as The Countdown continues ...

The soft launch of the next iteration of the DC Film Universe is finally here in Australia, so the best part of a month after the rest of the world chose to ignore Blue Beetle, Paul and Wayne are front and centre at the cinema to bring you their thoughts.

Is there more FAMILY in this film than even Vin Diesel could shake a fist at? How much neon does it take for Wayne to get all hot under the collar? And is Susan Sarandon the worst villain to "grace" the DCEU since whatever the hell Cara Delevingne was doing in Suicide Squad?

Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ... Though, please note, the reviews will be taking a break for the next month while Paul and his family hit the States for a holiday.

Countdown #441

Cartoons rocked, didn't they? Back when you were young, and you were allowed to control the TV remote for those few short hours on Saturday morning, life was full of endless possibilities and school was oh so far away.

That's the mindset Paul and Wayne are this week tapping into it as they countdown their favourite cartoons from when they were young - which means there's plenty of outdated jokes, many theme songs, and, of course, some inappropriate talk about which character the boys would rather bang.

Find out who takes that particular title (of wrongness) as The Countdown continues ...

This week, Wayne is too much of a wuss to see The Nun II and Paul is acting manager at his regular job so doesn't have the time to see two films in a week. Wayne, therefore, sees Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlees; Mutant Mayhem all on his own.

The end result is that each host is reviewing one film in a completely NON-SPOILER way to help you determine whether you should part with your heard-earned to see one, the other, or both.

Now if only Wayne could keep his potty-mouth in check ...

Find out just how bad that potty mouth is as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #440

What is more thrilling?

The Senate hearing into extraterrestrial life? Barbenheimer dominating the Box Office? Or Kanye's new wife embarrassing Kim Kardashian with her clothing choices?

Or, maybe, just maybe, is it the 440th countdown of this podcast, celebrating the very best thrillers of the current century?

I think we all know the answer. So go on and google Kayne's wife's outfit ... but do it while listening to this latest episode ...

Denzel and Antoine have clearly decided they want a holiday on the Sicilian coast, but to ensure they don't have to pay for the whole thing themselves, they decide to tack on making a movie. And that movie is The Equalizer 3.

Will Robert McCall finally meet his match? Or will he continue to ensure all are equal when it comes to violent endings? And can Wayne get over his hatred of all things Fuqua? Or will it be Paul who gets Fuquad on this occasion?

Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #439

Wayne and Paul put their thinking caps on for Countdown #439 as they aim to convince YOU, dear listener, that their sequel pitches are amazing and should get made ASAP!

Prepare yourselves for many of the sequels you would expect these two to bang on about, as well as some left field ideas - at least one of which is going to raise a few eyebrows.

Something a bit different this week as the Paul and Wayne could not find a single thing to review that they could agree on or had time to see.

So Wayne graciously gives Paul the mic to talk about an upcoming side project he has been working on. Accepting an invitation from Binge Movies' Jason to join him in celebrating the Slasher sub-genre of horror films, Paul has been watching dozens of slasher films in preparation.

The show will cover the golden era of the Slasher film craze - from 1980 to 1984 - as Jason and Paul take a carefully curated list of Slashers from each year to form their "Blood Pool". From this pool, they'll give several awards each week ... and argue about many of them in the process :D

The show will run for just seven episodes and will commence in mid-September, culminating in the final episode's release in time for Halloween 2023.

If this sound like your thing, keep your eyes peeled as episode number one will be available very soon. Then once you've listened, hit up Paul and Jason with your reviews and feedback!

Stick around at the end of this little interview for a cool trailer for the show that Jason cut together ...

And remember: Don't let them catch you! ... as The Countdown continues.
