TV & Film

A weekly comedic podcast in which two massive film buffs countdown a topic from 10-1 while throwing shade at the other’s list.

Episodes

2019 has all but ended and therefore it's time for the boys to kick off their traditional review of the year by first of all focusing on the small screen - that's right, television!

In the least formatted Ep of the year, Paul and Wayne talk through a non pre-determined number of shows, starting with their picks for the worst of the year and culminating with their reveals of the very best television for 2019.

Not surprisingly, Paul has more shows on his worst of list, but what controversial season does Wayne try to shoehorn in on both his worst AND best list? And who will have more genre shows on their list by the time this one is over?

Find the answers to all these burning questions and more as The Countdown continues ...

The Rise of Skywalker review

So it all comes to an end. After 42 years, the Skywalker saga comes to a close, with JJ Abrams entrusted to guide the saga through its conclusion, but can the man who made Star Trek cool again and wowed most with The Force Awakens stick the landing? Or was it a baffling move by Disney to re-hire him after he refused the offer to do Episode VIII and then clearly didn't like the choices Rian Johnson made in that film?

The boys answer these questions AND give their definitive ranking of all Star Wars films as The Countdown continues ...

This week, the boys wrap up the Best of the Decade series of shows by inviting Gerald from Two Peas on a Podcast and Wesley from the Via VHS Podcast on to team up with their list of the Top 10 Sci-Fi Films of the 2010s. So it's North Carolina versus Australia, with the home ground advantage to The Countdown boys. But will it be enough? Both lists have some cracker films (and there is an extraordinary number of cross-ups, all things considered) with some critically important differences.

Is Blade Runner 2049 worthy of this list? Does Wayne shoehorn a Tom Cruise film onto this list? And can Paul find a way to include Mad Max: Fury Road AGAIN?

Learn the answers to all these questions and so much more, as The Countdown continues ...

6 Underground review

BAAYHEMMMMM! Love him or hate him, Michael Bay has run off with a significant proportion of Netflix's budget for 2019 to produce a more nuanced and mature blockbuster for the streaming gia-BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Of course he hasn't! Michael Bay returns with more crass language, more ludicrous stunts, and way more death and violence than any Transformers movie! Of course it's NOT any good, but is it entertaining?

A tiny film called The Rise of Skywalker opens around the world today, so the Movie Mass Debaters got back together recently to put The Last Jedi to the test. Is it the crapfest a significant proportion of the fan-base believes, or is it a gem of a film which propelled the Star Wars universe in the direction of much-needed change? We Watched a Thing's B-Dizzle and Topher recruited Dean from The Movie Journey Podcast to take the side of light, while Dudi from Shaken Not Nerd turned Sam from Movie Reviews in 20 Q's and Paul to the Dark Side, all while Hendo (also from The Movie Journey podcast) presided over all to declare a winner.

So kick back with this ahead your viewing of The Rise of Skywalker, or maybe listen in while basking in the warm glow of the end of The Skywalker saga. Either way, enjoy this Aussie/Kiwi podcasting mash-up!

Top 10 Comedies of the 2010s

The Best of the Decade series continues as Paul and Wayne this week turn their attention to comedies - a genre that is near and dear to Wayne's heart especially

So it is with carefree abandon that Wayne labels Paul's top 10 the most indie comedy list of all time; while Paul cannot believe a couple of Wayne's choices, including a derided sequel to a much loved classic.

All this and the first mention of #PatreonPalooza coming soon to the show's Patreon feed as The Countdown continues ...

The Irishman review

Martin Scorsese unites Robert De Niro with Al Pacino AND lures Joe Pesci out of retirement to tell an epic gangster story in The Irishman, but is that enough to entertain Wayne? That's the big question out of this week's review, as Paul defends the film's length, while Wayne suggests Marty needs to know when to go home after a good night out.

Decide which side of the argument you fall on as the Countdown continues ...

Top 10 Dramas of the 2010s

This week Paul & Wayne are going all dramatic on you as they continue their best of the decade series with a countdown of the top tend dramas from that time period. Can the boys keep it simple or will some "barely dramas" make it onto their lists and incense the other co-host? And what are their consensus best two dramas that characterise the last 10 years of cinema?

Knives Out review

An Englishman with a southern drawl, an ex Captain of America playing a current a-hole, and a murder of a very wealthy Plummer - these are just some of the fun elements Rian Johnson has woven through his new acclaimed film, Knives Out. But is it REALLY a murder-mystery? (One of the guys doesn't think so.) And is it as good as the critics are saying?

2020 is knocking at our door, and to commemorate the occasion, Wayne and Paul begin their month long look back at the decade that was, commencing with their Top 10 Thrillers from that time period.

The lads are surprisingly agreeable as they break down the very best films which had them clenching their buttocks on the edge of their seat, but that does not stop Paul from running rampant with a new addition to the Soundboard. And of course, there are still the usual left field picks from both.

Is Denis Villeneuve the best director in this genre for the decade? How many films can Wayne possibly have on his list starring Ben Affleck? And who tries to shoehorn in films which might be considered more horror than thriller? (Hint: It's probably not who you'd think).

Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ...
